Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative colitis is an autoimmune disease marked by chronic inflammation of the large intestine. Like other forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the rate of ulcerative colitis has increased in recent decades, undoubtedly due to the many factors in advanced western countries that create inflammation. Unfortunately the methods used by conventional medicine to treat ulcerative colitis are still largely ineffective, particularly for those suffering from advanced forms of the disease.

The disease begins with simple inflammation of the colon. For some patients, that inflammation triggers an overreaction of the immune system. The inflammation worsens as the immune system attacks food, bacteria and the intestinal walls themselves. Eventually the walls of the large intestine develop open sores or ulcers which can cause excruciating pain. Related symptoms include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, bloody stools, loss of appetite and exhaustion. The cycle of flare-ups vary widely from patient to patient.

Patients who come to us with this condition often do so after years of suffering because of flawed treatment efforts on the part of orthodox medicine. Conventional practices try to suppress the immune system and alleviate pain and other symptoms. What they should be focusing on however is why the inflammation developed in the first place, and the factors that trigger this autoimmune response.

What we have discovered in our treatment of ulcerative colitis is a pattern shared by most patients with gastrointestinal diseases. There is always a high level of toxicity caused by medications, heavy metals and other chemicals in the body that disturb the immune system’s response. Usually we also find a history of dental health problems and the consequent procedures that similarly impair the immune response. We need to start with detoxification when approaching treatment for ulcerative colitis, identifying how nutrition, lifestyle and other health habits figure into this disease.

Our patients always present with dysbiosis, an imbalance of the intestinal bacteria. We therefore also focus on treatment to stabilize and rebalance the intestinal flora and thereby reinvigorate this foundation of the immune system. We use many methods, including targeted micronutrients, ozone therapy to increase the amount of oxygen in the body, and eliminating the dental foci. This program dramatically reduces the inflammatory activity within the body, especially within the intestine. Ultimately, we restore normalcy to the patient’s immune system overall and thus eradicate the mechanism of the ulcerative colitis in the first place.

In treating the immune system and intestines together, we are almost always successful in helping patients overcome ulcerative colitis if they follow our program carefully. Focusing on the individual is key. As every person is different, every case of this form of irritable bowel disease is inherently different. It is therefore our job to design a plan and prescribe a course of treatment that doesn’t suppress or mask, but that actually works in terms of a cure.
